NYC Health + Hospitals unveiled an upgraded, fully integrated software system, Enterprise Resource Planning.
Here are seven things to know about the system.
1. The ERP system, produced by PeopleSoft, is designed to help the public health system improve management of finances, purchasing and human resources.
2. NYC Health + Hospitals said the ERP system is an integrated suite of business applications that "replaces paper and manual processes" and "will standardize [the organization's] inventory management, payroll, time keeping, budget and other business functions."
3. The ERP platform launched July 3 for centralized health system functions and for various system hospitals.
4. The health system will fully implement the ERP platform for facility-level functions within in phases, and the entire ERP system implementation will be completed in the third quarter of 2020, NYC Health + Hospitals said.
5. The health system said it will invest $72 million through fiscal year 2020 to fully implement the new ERP system at its 11 hospitals, five long-term care facilities and more than 70 community-based health centers.
6. Overall, NYC Health + Hospitals anticipates savings of $65 million over the next five years as the ERP system is rolled out, with additional savings beyond that. The health system will eliminate the existing four separate legacy systems.
7. The health system's ERP system launch comes roughly two months after NYC Health + Hospitals announced it selected Epic's revenue cycle product to improve its financial picture. The health system said this revenue cycle technology will "integrate seamlessly" with the patient EMR system it has started adopting. "Both products of Epic, the revenue cycle and electronic medical record systems are being developed to coordinate smoothly with the new ERP system," the health system added.
