Number of Registrants for Incentive Payments Still on the Rise

Despite threats from the GOP to repeal the meaningful use program and other government spending, the number of healthcare providers that have registered for meaningful use incentive payments has increased to 14,000 members, according to a Healthcare IT News report.

The number increased from 13,000 members in January. Healthcare providers that registered for incentive payments attest that they have meaningfully used certified electronic health records for three months.

David Blumenthal, MD, national coordinator for health IT, said interoperability will be the staple of meaningful use, and the federal government is hard at work to help healthcare providers achieve that. David Lanskey, co-chair of the Quality Measures Workgroup, said some of the "most promising measures" for Stage 2 include patients' IT connection with their providers, lipid control using the Framingham risk score and hospital readmission.
