Two health information exchanges in North Carolina have agreed to share patient records across North and South Carolina.
Charlotte, N.C.-based Carolinas HealthCare System CareConnect and Asheville, N.C.-based Mission Health Connect will collaborate to share the data across the Carolinas. Carolinas HealthCare System includes providers in both North and South Carolina, expanding the reach of the HIE to both states.
Through this new partnership and CareConnect's previously established partnership with Wilmington, N.C.-based Coastal Connect, another HIE, more than 3.5 million patient records will be available on the platform.
"Our patients' health doesn’t see boundaries and neither should access to their health records," said Craig Richardville, president of CareConnect and senior vice president and CIO of Carolinas HealthCare System. "This collaboration is allowing our patients to receive better healthcare coverage across the Carolinas. Providers will have a broader view of their patient's health and medication history to be able to make more informed decisions on a patient’s care."
