The second day of National Health IT Week saw the start of the Interoperability Showcase in Washington, D.C., featuring new innovations from a variety of vendors in the health IT space.
Federal agencies are also participating in the showcase, which continues today. CMS will present the Electronic Submission of Medical Data program, and the Department of Veterans Affairs will highlight their Virtual Lifetime Electronic Record program and their work developing standardized records for service members and veterans.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture also joined the NHIT Week celebrations yesterday with an announcement of a partnership with HHS and the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT to increase funding for health IT in rural regions across the country.
"Digital technology holds tremendous promise for the future of healthcare, and we must ensure that rural Americans have access to the latest in health technology," Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said in the release. "USDA has worked hard to expand digital tools and infrastructure for rural health providers, and as a result more communities are well-positioned to provide cutting edge healthcare."
