NewYork-Presbyterian, Splunk partner to develop prescription drug monitoring platform

New York City-based NewYork-Presbyterian teamed up with Splunk to create data analytics tools to help mitigate diversion of controlled substances, including opioids.

Together, the organizations will develop a controlled substance monitoring platform. The platform will be implemented in the second quarter of 2019, and it will allow NewYork-Presbyterian clinicians to track data from EHRs, electronic prescription of controlled substances platforms, pharmacy dispensing systems and other sources. The data tracking will help NewYork-Presbyterian ensure that controlled substances are not being inappropriately diverted.

NewYork-Presbyterian and Splunk also are creating an enhanced data analytics tool to expand patient privacy security measures and investigate unauthorized access to EHRs. The new tool will include improved safeguards, such as the ability to issue real-time alerts in the event someone is inappropriately looking at patient records

NewYork-Presbyterian currently uses Splunk Enterprise and Splunk Enterprise Security solutions to monitor IT security operations.
