Although it has been operational since February, New Jersey's first statewide health information exchange, the New Jersey Health Information Network, has now officially launched, according to a Townsquare report.
Using a $12 million federal grant, the HIE connects the following regional exchanges: Jersey Health Connect, Health-e-cITi-NJ, Camden HIE, NJSHINE, Virtua and NJ-HITEC.
"The creation of NJHIN will further expand the use of health information technology and health information exchange to better coordinate patient care in our state," said New Jersey Health Commissioner Mary E. O'Dowd when the grant funding was announced. "NJHIN will allow appropriate healthcare providers across the state to have electronic access to patient information such as medical histories, medication allergies and lab test results at the point of care."
