A recently launched HHS website is designed to help providers and health plans obtain "meaningful consent" from patients before their health data is able to be exchanged or accessed over a health information exchange.
The site provides resources for understanding requirements for patient consent as well as tools to help patient consent be informed and meaningful. The information on the site reflects regulatory changes going into effect Sept. 23 as part of the HIPAA omnibus rule.
