A new law in New Hampshire allows protected health information to be disclosed to a broader swath of care providers, with the goal of improving care coordination in the state.
The law, effective Sept. 9, opens the New Hampshire Health Information Organization, a statewide HIE, to a larger group of care providers. Now, care coordinators, providers' support staff and other members of a patient's care team can access patient information through the HIE.
"Our organization is about improving communication transmissions between providers," said Jeff Loughlin, executive director of the New Hampshire Health Information Organization. "With Senate Bill 229 in effect, healthcare teams are now able to more effectively manage the flow of patient information in a timely and secure manner, utilizing state-of-the-art IT infrastructure to support ongoing efforts in the continuous improvement of healthcare in New Hampshire."
