A new startup center in Chicago hopes to lure health IT innovators to the Windy City.
Located in Chicago's historic Merchandise Mart, MATTER will feature a collaborative workspace to foster interactions between entrepreneurs, academics and investors. The ultimate goal is to promote innovation in the healthcare sector while bringing high-tech companies and jobs to Chicago.
The nonprofit technology hub was championed by Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn in his 2014 State of the State address, and it will receive $4 million in state funding.
"We are committed to taking our medical technology industry to the next level," said Gov. Quinn in a news release. "MATTER will serve as a central location to empower entrepreneurs and spur economic growth, while advancing Illinois' role as a national leader in life sciences and health innovation."
