A new bill introduced into the House of Representatives Friday would expand coverage of telehealth services to active-duty military personnel and their families, as well as veterans and retirees.
The 21st Century Care for Military & Veterans Act, introduced by Reps. Mike Thompson (D-Calif.) and Scott Peters (D-Calif.), would expand reimbursement policies for telehealth procedures under TRICARE and in the Department of Veterans Affairs.
"As we look for ways to provide the best-quality care for our servicemembers and veterans, telehealth technologies are increasingly important to the full range of options we should be offering," Rep. Peters said in a statement. "We've already seen that these technologies create a more responsive and more efficient healthcare system that provides for better care and lower costs. That's the type of commonsense approach that can make a real difference in military and veterans' communities in San Diego and across the country."
