The ONC approved the National Committee for Quality Assurance's electronic clinical quality measure as an alternative testing method for the office's health IT certification program June 19.
The eCQM tool is the first industry-develop testing method approved by ONC, according to NCQA. All existing testing tools developed and used in the health IT certification program were government-supported.
"The approval of NCQA's eCQM testing method is a first step toward further diversifying the suite of test methods used as part of the ONC Health IT Certification Program," wrote Steven Posnack, director of the ONC's Office of Standards and Technology, in a June 22 ONC blog post. "Together, we can continue to make the certification process more efficient for developers and ultimately, more effective for the providers who use their health IT to care for patients."
