National Library of Medicine Rolls Out MedlinePlus Connect

The National Library of Medicine has officially launched MedlinePlus Connect, a free service in which health IT providers and health groups sync patient portals and electronic health record systems to MedlinePlus.gov, according to an HHS news release.

MedlinePlus.gov keeps updated health information for patients and healthcare providers, and the NLM's aim with MedlinePlus Connect is to give simple and portable health information access to patients using EHRs.

MedlinePlus Connect may also help health care providers meet meaningful use criteria, as the service helps EHRs and providers to identify "patient-specific education resources."

In order to use MedlinePlus Connect, health providers should contact their EHR vendor or own IT staff to follow these instructions.
