Naples (Fla.) Community Hospital Healthcare System has received HIMSS Analytics' Stage 7 Award, the highest level of electronic health record progress a hospital or health system can attain.
John Hoyt, executive vice president of HIMSS Analytics, praised NCH Healthcare System's use of health IT to improve the patient experience. "From a comprehensive electronic medical record that has assisted in improving quality, safety and efficiency, to a complete 'smart room' concept that has helped improve patient and employee satisfaction, NCH is an example of where inpatient care is heading in the future," he said.
Since 2005, HIMSS Analytics' EMR Adoption Model has tracked electronic medical record adoption in hospitals and health systems throughout the country. The eight-stage model cumulates with stage 7, in which paper records are no longer used. Stage 7 organizations are also able to share patient information electronically and have advanced data analytics capabilities.
Currently, only 179 U.S. hospitals have reached HIMSS' stage 7.
