More lawmakers pledge support for 90-day MU reporting period in 2015

Rep. Renee Ellmers (R-N.C.), one of the sponsors of a bill that would reduce the 2015 meaningful use reporting period, told Politico a growing number of lawmakers support the legislation.

The Flexibility in Health IT Reporting Act would reduce the 2015 reporting period from 365 days to 90, and allow providers to choose any quarter in 2015 for EHR reporting. Several industry groups, including the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives and the American Hospital Association, have already voiced their support for the measure.

"We are continuing to build support — we're starting to receive a lot of interest from member offices," she told Politico, and added several co-sponsors have been added to the bill in the past week. They include: Reps. Diane Black (R-Tenn.), Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah), Phil Gingrey (R-Ga.) and Chris Stewart (R-Utah). Three more — Reps. Michael Burgess (R-Texas), Curt Clawson (R-Fla.) and Walter B. Jones (R-N.C.) — are slated to be added when Congress returns from recess, according to the report.
