Mobile users more satisfied with EHR experience

EHR users with mobile interfaces report fewer challenges and higher satisfaction with their EHRs, according to a new survey from EHR systems reviewer Software Advice and Research Now.

The survey analyzed nearly 600 responses from medical practices of varying size and specialty.

Users accessing their practice's EHR from a laptop or mobile phone reported greater satisfaction with the experience when compared to desktop computer users: 58 percent of mobile EHR users were "very satisfied" with their EHRs, compared to 28 percent of nonmobile EHR users. In addition, mobile users found learning to use their EHR less challenging than nonmobile users, with 39 percent and 58 percent respectively expressing challenges with the process. Mobile users reported fewer EHR related productivity problems (27 percent) than did nonmobile users (58 percent).

Two additional trends also presented in the survey responses. The first: Investing in patient portals was considered a top priority, especially as portals relate to patient engagement. Secondly, interoperability remains a significant challenge; more than half of users reported difficulty with integrating external system data into their EHRs.
