Mississippi Medicaid and Health Information Exchange Launch EHR, E-Prescribing System for Medicaid Beneficiaries

The Mississippi Division of Medicaid and Shared Health, one of the country's largest health information exchanges, have launched a system for electronic health records and electronic prescribing for more than 500,000 Medicaid beneficiaries in Mississippi, according to a Healthcare IT News report.

The contract between Shared Health, which has records for approximately 4 million patients, and the Mississippi Division of Medicaid was announced last August. The joint effort aims to better connect the integrated network of Medicaid beneficiaries' healthcare providers to patients' medical records. Shared Health hopes to help the Mississippi Division of Medicaid reduce healthcare costs and improve patient care through the partnership.

Under the four-year contract, Shared Health will offer Mississippi Medicaid providers with a secure web-based EHR, electronic prescribing system, access to hospital discharge information and support services for EHR adoption.
