Microsoft released results from its fourth quarter ending on June 30. Revenue grew 12 percent above last year's fourth quarter, to $51.9 billion.
“In a dynamic environment we saw strong demand, took share, and increased customer commitment to our cloud platform. Commercial bookings grew 25 percent, and Microsoft Cloud revenue was $25 billion, up 28 percent year over year,” Amy Hood, Microsoft executive vice president and CFO, said in a July 26 company news release. “As we begin a new fiscal year, we remain committed to balancing operational discipline with continued investments in key strategic areas to drive future growth.”

- World events, such as the continued lockdown in China and Microsoft’s decision to scale down operations in Russia, played a significant role in the quarter's business strategy.
- LinkedIn revenue increased 26 percent.
- Advertising revenue from search and news increased 18 percent.
- Windows original equipment manufacturer revenue fell 2 percent.
- Operating income increased by 19 percent, to $193.8 billion.
