Stamford, Conn.-based HoloTouch filed a lawsuit Nov. 9 against Microsoft, alleging its HoloLens device — which is gaining popularity for its mixed-reality, holographic imaging — infringed on two of HoloTouch's patents that date back more than ten years, according to Engadget.
HoloTouch, which markets an interactive human-machine interface technology, claims Microsoft "wilfully" knew about its patented technology for years, since the company approached Microsoft for a partnership in 2006 but never received a response. Microsoft filed its patents for HoloLens in 2013, and cited HoloTouch's as "prior art." HoloTouch says it reached out two more times to Microsoft, in 2015 and 2016, to discuss a licensing agreement for the patents, but again, the company received no response.
Now, HoloTouch is seeking a jury trial and triple damages.
