Michigan's 2 Largest HIEs to Merge

Grand Rapids-based Michigan Health Connect and East Lansing-based Great Lakes Health Information Exchange, the two largest HIEs in the state, have announced their intention to merge later this year, according to a Detroit Free Press report.

The combined HIE will serve about 100 hospitals in the state, along with hundreds of physician offices, according to the report.

"Our missions were similar, and we believed we could do more, better together than continuing to do it separately," Doug Dietzman, executive director of Michigan Health Connect told the Detroit Free Press. "We kind of sit in the middle as the neutral third-party broker to figure out how the data needs to get where it needs to go."
