Retired Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps was appointed to the board of directors for Sydney, Australia-based Medibio, a medical technology company that tests for and manages mental health disorders.
Mr. Phelps said he has used Medibio's technology to evaluate his own health.
"I am honored to accept this appointment because I have personally experienced Medibio's technology and believe it can help make a profound impact in diagnosing mental health and empowering people to seek the help and support they may need," he said.
Medibio is currently conducting clinical trials and hopes to become the first Food and Drug Administration approved, objective and evidence based approach to mental health diagnosis.
Mr. Phelps, an advocate for mental health, served as the honorary chairperson of HHS' Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's National Mental Health Awareness Day 2017 and as an ambassador for the Child Mind Institute's #MyYoungerSelf social media campaign, an effort to end the stigma around mental illness and learning disorders.
