The College of Healthcare Information Management Executives has honored two health system CIOs with its inaugural Federal Public Policy Award at the CHIME13 Fall CIO Forum in Scottsdale, Ariz.
CHIME recognized Pam McNutt, senior vice president and CIO of Methodist Health System in Dallas, and Bill Spooner, senior vice president and CIO of Sharp HealthCare in San Diego, as the co-recipients of the award. The Federal Public Policy Award is intended to highlight a CHIME member who has demonstrated leadership in several health IT policy areas, including educating policymakers on the value of health IT, working with congressional committees and providing feedback on federal health initiatives.
Ms. McNutt has served as CIO of Methodist for the past 20 years. She has chaired two separate CHIME committees — the Advocacy Leadership Team and the Policy Steering Committee — and she has served on other state and local health IT policy committees.
Mr. Spooner has served as CIO of Sharp HealthCare for the past 17 years. Like Ms. McNutt, he has also served on CHIME's Policy Steering Committee, and he has testified several times in Washington, D.C., on federal health IT policy issues.
