Mergers and acquisitions in the healthcare information technology sector jumped by 28 percent in the first half of 2012 compared with the second half of 2011,
according to a trend report from investment banking firm BerkeryNoyes.
There were 196 HIT transactions in the first six months of 2012. Veritas Capital Partners' $1.25 billion purchase of Thomson Reuters' Healthcare Business was the largest deal, but the most active acquirers were Medical Transcription Billing, T-System Technologies and Sharecare. Each company had three acquisitions in six months.

While transaction volume grew, combined value of the deals fell by 14 percent compared with the second half of 2011, from $5.92 billion to $5.07 billion. The median revenue multiple remained the same at 2.2x, an increase from the 1.5x in the first half of 2011.
