Mercy, a St. Louis-based health system, recently received the HIMSS Davies Enterprise Award for improving its perioperative services.
To improve these services, Mercy adopted a set of Epic dashboards. These dashboards, which the health system implemented two and a half years ago, gives surgeons real-time access to perioperative data in Epic and enables leadership officials to compare surgical costs and outcomes.
In the past two and a half years, surgery prices have decreased at Mercy — for example, an average knee surgery in 2014 cost $7,045, compared to $5,527 in 2016. In total, the implementation has saved Mercy $9.42 million for surgical procedures, according to Epic.
