Meet Dr. Claus Torp Jensen, Memorial Sloan Kettering's 1st chief digital officer

Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center named Claus Torp Jensen, PhD, the New York City-based institution's first chief digital officer and head of technology on Oct. 14.

Dr. Jensen joins Memorial Sloan Kettering following a four-year stint at CVS Health and Aetna, where he served as the chief technology officer and head of architecture. In that role, he led CVS Health's efforts in technology innovation, business transformation incubation, digital integration and more.

Before joining CVS Health, Dr. Jensen held leadership roles at IBM for seven years and at Danske Bank for 13 years. Throughout his career, he has received awards such as an InfoWorld and Forrester Enterprise Architecture Award in 2016 and, earlier this year, an IDG CIO 100 Award. The author of several publications, he holds a total of 14 patents associated with integration, APIs and transformation.

Dr. Jensen earned his bachelor's degree in mathematics from Denmark's Aarhus University, where he also went on to earn both master's and doctorate degrees in computer science.

As chief digital officer and head of technology at Memorial Sloan Kettering, he will lead the development of data platforms and other digital solutions, overseeing the operations of the cancer center's 800-member information systems, health informatics and data products departments. He will report to Memorial Sloan Kettering's chief operating officer, Kathryn Martin.

"I am thrilled to join Memorial Sloan Kettering, an institution renowned worldwide for its cancer care, research and innovation," Dr. Jensen said in a release announcing his appointment. "MSK's mission to provide the best care for patients diagnosed with cancer both today and in the future resonates with me on a personal level, and MSK's renewed focus on data and digital products will go a long way in supporting this aim."
