MEDITECH has announced a partnership with Validic, a digital health company, to incorporate data from wearable medical devices and fitness devices into its EHR platform.
Validic, based in Durham, N.C., operates an "ecosystem" on a cloud-based platform that connects health systems and providers, wellness companies, payers and pharmaceutical companies as well as incorporates data from wearable devices. The goal of connecting stakeholders with the data is to drive improved care and cost management, according to the company.
Westwood, Mass.-based MEDITECH will leverage the data connection to increase the remote patient monitoring, home care, patient discharge management, wellness initiatives and population health functionality of its EHR, according to a news release.
"MEDITECH is focused on advancing our population health and patient engagement strategy, which is why we're ramping up our remote patient monitoring and telehealth offerings," said Howard Messing, president and CEO of MEDITECH, in the news release. "Today's healthcare environment is value-based and outcome-driven, which means healthcare providers need to evaluate every aspect of their patients' health, not just those factors that contributed to their latest doctor's appointment."
Several major health IT vendors are beginning to connect their platforms to patient-generated data. Last month, Validic and Cerner announced a partnership to incorporate data into its EHR from patients' wearable devices. eClinicalWorks made a similar announcement with healow earlier this month to incorporate patient-generated data into its EHR.
