McKesson expanding to rural Iowa town

Officials in Clear Lake, Iowa, announced that McKesson Corp. will expand into the area.

The San Francisco-based company has been building a $65 million warehouse and distribution center in the rural northern Iowa town, according to the Des Moines Register. The facility is expected to employ 164 people and serve a seven-state region including Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri and Illinois.

The company has kept the news quiet but revealed its plans Feb. 19 because it seeks state and local incentives, and the Iowa Economic Development Authority Board's policy is to release company names when it considers requests. The incentive requests include a $170,000 forgivable loan and $4.2 million in tax credits, according to the report.

"After careful consideration, we determined that Clear Lake, Iowa, was an ideal location for a new, state-of-the-art distribution center that would allow us to deliver optimal service and quality to our customers and their patients," McKesson spokeswoman Kristin Hunter said in an email to the Des Moines Register.
