McKesson is exploring the possibility of selling its IT unit, and three people familiar with the matter told Reuters the company has discussed merging its IT unit with Change Healthcare.
Change Healthcare, formerly known as Emdeon, is a healthcare technology company based in Nashville, Tenn. Merging McKesson's IT unit, called Technology Solutions, with Change Healthcare would create a unit worth more than $10 billion, according to Reuters.
McKesson first floated the idea of separating its IT unit in early June, citing pressure to focus on its core drug-distribution business and trim down other business areas.
The people familiar with the matter told Reuters the talks are very preliminary, and there is no certainty that any transaction involving Technology Solutions — with Change Healthcare or otherwise — will occur.
