Mayo's Epic implementation requires new substation; McKesson, Vocera report rising revenues; IBM Watson takes on Apple Watch — 9 health IT key notes

Here are nine recent news updates on key health IT companies.

1. Epic is working with Rochester Public Utilities to construct a new substation that will support the enhanced needs of the Mayo Data Center as Mayo Clinic works toward its Epic go-live.

2. While San Francisco-based McKesson posted a 10 percent growth in revenue for the second quarter of 2016 compared to the year prior, the healthcare services and IT company reported a slight dip in gross profit.

3. Osage Beach, Mo.-based Lake Regional Health System plans to adopt MEDITECH's 6.1 EHR, including its web ambulatory, home care and business and clinical analytics solutions.

4. Vocera Communications reports 14 percent year-over-year revenue growth for the third quarter of 2015 with total reported revenue of $26.45 million.

5. Quality Systems has sold the hospital solutions division of its subsidiary NextGen Healthcare to better focus on its core ambulatory business.

6. IBM Watson is co-developing a digital health app that will pair Watson's artificial intelligence capabilities with Apple Watch's personalized health offerings. 

7. Cerner and Truman Medical Centers are expanding their strategic relationship to develop and pilot innovations using healthcare IT to improve patient care. 

8. Allscripts and Catholic Health Initiatives, based in Englewood, Colo., have expanded their business relationship. 

9. Dialysis Clinic, a nonprofit dialysis provider based in Nashville, Tenn., has chosen to implement eClinicalWorks' solution suite in nine physician practices.
