Marin General Hospital in Greenbrae, Calif., experienced a phone line outage on Friday believed to have been caused by scammers, according to a report in the Marin Independent Journal.
"They have technology that allows them to inundate a business's phone system such as the phone system becomes unusable, and they demand credit card numbers," said Jon Friedenberg, chief fund and business development officer at the hospital, of the hackers, according to the report.
While the phone lines were unusable for most of Friday, patient care was not jeopardized, according to the report.
The hospital has asked the Federal Bureau of Investigations to look into the matter, according to the report.
