Majority of Patients Believe Benefits of Accessing Medical Records Online Outweigh Privacy Risks, Study Finds

A new study from Accenture, a management consulting and technology services firm, has found 51 percent of patients with chronic health conditions believe the benefits of accessing their medical records online outweighs the privacy risks.

The study also made the following findings:

  • The vast majority (87 percent) of patients with chronic conditions believe it is important to have control over their health information.

  •  55 percent of patients with chronic conditions believe they have little to no control over their health information. 

  • 69 percent of patients with chronic conditions believe having access to health data is a right and they want access to all of their information.

For the study, Accenture surveyed 10,730 individuals from 10 countries including healthy consumers and those who self-reported they were chronically ill.
