Defense, security and aerospace company Lockheed Martin has purchased health IT company Systems Made Simple for an undisclosed sum, according to a report from The Washington Post.
Systems Made Simple is based in Syracuse, N.Y., and is a private health data analytics and management company. Founded in 1991, it has contracted with government agencies including the Department of Veterans' Affairs and the National Institutes of Health, according to the report.
The purchase comes at a time defense contracting companies are beginning to view health IT as a growing opportunity for investment. "We are looking to bolster our capabilities in [the federal health IT market] and increase our reach within the market," said Horace Blackman, vice president of Lockheed Martin's health and life sciences sector, in the Post.
