Lawsuit Over UCLA Health System Data Breach Fails to Move Forward

A class-action lawsuit against the University of California Board of Regents over a data breach at UCLA Health System has not moved forward since it was filed in December, according to a Daily Bruin report.

UC regents' legal representation has not responded to the complaint, which seeks $1,000 in damages for each of the patients who were affected by the breach, according to the report. The breach occurred in September and involved the theft of a hard drive containing more than 16,000 patients' information from a UCLA physician's home.

UCLA Health System could face up to $16 million in legal fees and other costs for the suit, according to the report.
