Laptop Stolen From HOPE Family Health Compromises 8,000 Patients' Information

HOPE Family Health in Westmoreland, Tenn., has announced a data breach involving a laptop stolen from an employee's home.

The laptop was password-protected but not encrypted, and contained the personal information of up to 8,000 current and former patients. HOPE does not believe any of the information has been improperly accessed.

In response to the theft and data breach, HOPE has moved all patient information off of individual computers, and has moved its electronic health record system to an encrypted, cloud-based server.
