The Identity Theft Resource Center found that there have been 312 reported data breaches and more than 1.3 million exposed records in 2017 as of March 14, according to 24/7 Wall St.
Here are five additional things to know about ITRC's findings on data breaches this year.
1. The medical/healthcare sector posted 79 breaches, or 25.3 percent of all breaches, so far in 2017. Approximately 744,435 records were exposed in these breaches.
2. The business sector experienced 155 breaches, or 49.7 percent of all incidents, thus far. Approximately 474,401 records were exposed in the breaches.
3. The government/military sector experienced 19 breaches, or 6.1 percent of incidents, so far this year. Around 43,799 records were compromised in the government/military sector.
4. The educational sector posted 54 breaches, or 17.3 percent of all breaches thus far in 2017. The sector reported 39,698 records were compromised in these incidents.
5. The banking/credit/financial sector reported 5 breaches, or 1.6 percent of all incidents, this year. No records in the sector were compromised.
