Indiana opens first school telehealth clinic

Elwood (Ind.) Intermediate School is the first school in the state to open a telehealth clinic, according to WFYI.org.

The clinic will not only provide traditional healthcare services, but will also offer behavioral health services.

"Innovative pilots like this are really going to be key in improving the health of what is largely a rural state," said Indiana State Health Commissioner Jerome Adams, MD, according to the report.

The clinic was created and is funded through a partnership between Linton-based Indiana Rural Health Association, Indianapolis-based St. Vincent Health, Indianapolis-based Managed Health Services and Noblesville-based Aspire Indiana.

The state hopes to open six more school-based clinics through grants from the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration.
