With the ICD-10 deadline approaching in October, approximately 60 percent of hospital executives are prioritizing their resources to pay for migration to comply with the coding standards.
A survey of nearly 950 hospital executives by research firm peer60 found hospital executives said they plan to focus on ICD-10 migration, followed by the purchase of population health software and patient engagement tools. This is change from previous years, when the top spending priority was on EHR implementation.
However, EHR implementation remains the priority for smaller hospitals, according to the report. Larger hospitals, which the report classifies as having more than 100 beds, have more resources and are focusing largely on ICD-10 migration and population health software. Smaller hospitals, which the report classifies as having less than 100 beds, are still more likely to spend resources on an EHR system. The larger hospitals already likely have those systems fully implemented, the report said.
