A health system in Bangalore, India, will use IBM Watson for Oncology to assist oncologists in providing individualized healthcare to cancer patients.
Manipal Hospitals' corporate and teaching hospitals treat more than 200,000 cancer patients each year. Their deployment of Watson will be the supercomputer's first project in India.
"This engagement represents a major step in the transformation of healthcare in India," said Vanitha Narayanan, managing director of IBM India. "With IBM Watson we are bringing cognitive computing to the healthcare ecosystem to help deliver greater value to patients in India."
