Further burrowing into the healthcare industry, IBM Watson is co-developing a digital health app that will pair Watson's artificial intelligence capabilities with Apple Watch's personalized health offerings.
Here are five things to know about the partnership, as reported by Fortune.
1. The app is being co-developed by IBM Watson and Welltok, which is reported to be the first cognitive health and wellness concierge app designed for the Apple Watch. Welltok is the developer of the CafeWell Health Optimization Platform, a personalized health engagement solution for consumers.
2. The new app for the Apple Watch will join Waton's natural language capabilities with Welltok's CafeWell Concierge to create a health platform that interacts and adapts with each user.
3. The app features a "Dialog" element which allows the app to ask questions to the user and learn information about the individual. "Pair the user input with the sensors within an Apple Watch, and you essentially have a high-powered, uber-intelligent wearable — like a Fitbit on steroids," according to Fortune.
4. The goal of such an app is to create sustainable behavior change for the user, particularly for individuals with chronic conditions. Prompts from the Apple Watch which continually is learning about the user could help prompt healthy behaviors or even remind users to get flu shots or take vital medications.
5. The CafeWell Concierge app is not yet commercially available, but Welltok is launching it internally for IBM employees first.
