IBM to lay off 2,000 employees this week

IBM has scheduled another round of layoffs this week with 2,000 jobs being cut, a person close to the matter told The Wall Street Journal.

The job cuts come as IBM looks to reshape its business.

"We are continuing to reposition our team to align with our focus on the high-value segments of the IT market, and we also continue to hire aggressively in critical new areas that deliver value for our clients and IBM," and IBM spokesperson said.

IBM has around 25,000 job openings posted globally. The company reported its fewest number of employees since 2005 with 350,600 as of Dec. 31, WSJ reports.

In April, IBM had its third consecutive quarter of declining revenue. The company hasn't been able to amp up its cloud computing and artificial intelligence to offset slower growth in equipment sales and services, reports WSJ.
