IBM's 'predictive attrition program' can identify employees about to quit

IBM has patented an artificial intelligence tool that its CEO Ginni Rometty says is roughly 95 percent accurate at identifying employees who are about to quit, CNBC reports.

Speaking at CNBC's @Work Talent + HR summit in New York City April 2, Ms. Rometty said the tool has helped IBM save $300 million through employee retention. "The best time to get to an employee is before they go," Ms. Rometty said, according to CNBC.

The "predictive attrition program," developed with Watson, helps managers identify employees who are planning an exit and recommends strategies to re-engage those workers, according to the report. It is part of a larger suite of AI-powered human resources tools.

Using its own tools internally, IBM has cut its HR department by almost a third and can now better identify employee skill sets and skills gaps, according to the report. This has helped the tech firm become more transparent about career paths and opportunities for employees.
