With the addition of blockchain technology, patients can get more control over their health records, Digital Treasury CEO Jacob Lee told the Digital Times.
If medical records are stored and managed on blockchain platforms, patients can determine to whom and when they want to give decrypted access of their record, Mr. Lee said. For example, patients can decrypt their data for health counselors, health insurance firms or new physicians.
Blockchain also is designed to add security through its encryption. The delivery of patients' health records through a blockchain would be completed on a classified authorization basis, according to Mr. Lee.
Hospitals would need to follow up with patients to get authorized release of medical records. Additionally, it would be important to consistently follow-up with patients to determine who can get access to their health records.
