White Memorial Medical Center in Los Angeles, part of the Adventist Health system, has improved its operating room turnaround time by approximately 10 percent by implementing a workflow-optimizing mobile app system that combined offerings from Zebra Technologies and clinical logistics software company Tagnos.
The Tagnos-Zebra solution joins the latter's mobile computer with the former's OR workflow software. The software uses special tags on patient wristbands to track patients as they move through the surgical suite, providing that information and other updates from nursing and environmental services staff to the app to streamline processes across the entire department and speed up care delivery while boosting patient satisfaction.
"The Tagnos-Zebra workflow optimization solution has fostered a higher level of teamwork since ambiguity has been removed and everyone can visually see how their tasks are interrelated," Randy Saad, RN, director of perioperative services at White Memorial, said. "Since we implemented the solution, we have reduced EVS response times to operating rooms by 41 percent, enabling us to significantly improve our operational efficiency and reduce costs while seeing more patients."
