Reps. Michael Burgess (R-Texas), Eliot Engel (D-N.Y.), Kevin Brady (R-Texas) and Charles Rangel (D-N.Y.) plan to introduce legislation that would provide meaningful use of electronic health record incentive payments to individual hospitals within a multi-campus system and are asking others in Congress to support the bill, according to an AHA News Now report.
The legislation seeks to clarify how incentive payments are paid out to health systems with multiple facilities. The final meaningful use rule calls for incentives to be paid by provider number, but according to the legislation, if multiple campuses share one provider number the hospitals may receive less payment than intended by Congress.
The American Hospital Association and the Association of American Medical Colleges supports the legislation.
