Holy Cross Hospital in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., has sent letters to 9,900 former patients informing them of a possible data breach, according to a report by CBS.
The letters were sent after hospital officials learned an employee inappropriately accessed patient information between November 2011 and August 2013, possibly with the intent of using the information to file fraudulent tax returns, according to the report.
All patients possibly affected by the breach have been offered use of a credit monitoring service, according to the report.
