The Health Information Trust Alliance has released proposed changes to its Common Security Framework for 2014, all aimed at increasing patient data security.
The goal of the CSF is to incorporate HIPAA and other governmental and industry security requirements to create comprehensive security guidelines for the healthcare industry. The 125 total proposed changes affect 35 controls within the CSF, with some of the most significant changes impacting confidentiality, consent and data disclosure requirements.
The new guidelines are in response to the HIPAA omnibus rule as well as the increased use of electronic health records and health information exchanges among providers.
