Electronic health records are becoming more ubiquitous through the HITECH Act, and this has led to a massive upsurge in hiring for jobs related to electronic health records, clinical informatics and other health IT areas, according to a study in Industrial Relations: A Journal of Economy and Society.
Between 2007 and 2011, health IT job postings tripled to 434,000, many of which were created by the HITECH Act, according to the study. In addition, the HITECH Act was associated with an 86 percent spike in monthly job postings.
The study also found that 2.5 percent of all healthcare jobs are related to EHRs, informatics and other health IT areas, according to an EHR Intelligence report.
