HIT Expected to Save Healthcare Providers $5 Billion by 2014

The U.S. healthcare IT market is forecasted to save healthcare providers $1.96 to $5.84 billion in healthcare costs by 2014, according to a "U.S. Healthcare IT Market Forecast to 2014" report by RNCOS Industry Research Solutions.

The report also predicts the HIT market will expand at a compound annual growth rate of 22.5 percent from 2012 to 2014. The report analyzed various HIT components including ehealth, mhealth, remote patient monitoring and medical imaging information systems. The following areas will augment the market growth, according to the report:

•    Increasing electronic health record adoption;
•    Growing awareness for quality among patients;
•    Private sector active participation;
•    New government measures toward rural areas.
