HIMSS to offer executive education program at Harvard Medical School

The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society will offer a three-day educational program on data practices at Boston-based Harvard Medical School in 2019.

Here are four things to know about the program:

1. The program, which runs Jan. 22-24, is listed as an "advanced" class targeted toward mid- and senior-level IT managers and clinical executives employed by healthcare provider and supplier organizations. It is offered through the executive education program at Harvard Medical School.

2. Titled "Data, Insights and Strategies for the Health Enterprise," the program aims to provide participants with strategic and technical skills to apply data and analytics to healthcare operations and care delivery.

"HIMSS has created this initiative recognizing that in today's complex healthcare environment, executive leadership faces a multitude of challenges and opportunities across administrative, financial, operational and technical aspects when delivering patient care," HIMSS wrote in a blog post.

3. Educators and clinical leadership from Harvard Medical School and its affiliated hospitals — including Partners HealthCare and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, both based in Boston — will lead sessions at the program.

4. Participants will receive a certificate of completion from Harvard Medical School upon completing the program. HIMSS will also provide a separate certificate of completion noting the participant completed 16 Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems or Certified Associate in Healthcare Information and Management Systems continuing education credits.
