Hospitals' capital spending for health IT application solutions is projected to be around 46.5 percent to 48.3 percent of their total IT capital budgets this year, an increase of two percent from 2009, according to a HIMSS Analytics report.
The report looked at data for more than 5,200 hospitals and 32,000 medical facilities in the United States and found that upcoming meaningful use incentives are driving hospitals to spend pre-recession level capital toward health IT application solutions.
Because meaningful use incentives will continue to be around for the next several years, the report indicated that capital toward health IT and even revenue cycle management applications should increase over that span.
