HIMSS has announced the winners of two awards recognizing clinician leadership in health IT, to be presented at the 2014 Annual HIMSS Conference & Exhibition, Feb. 23-27 in Orlando.
Keith Salzman, MD has won the 2013 HIMSS Physician IT Leadership Award, which honors physicians who have shown leadership in applying health IT to the needs of physicians.
Dr. Salzman currently serves as the CMIO of IT firm CACI International. He is also the volunteer chair of the HIMSS Interoperability and Standards Committee, where he has been deeply engaged with advocating for policy and has supported the work of nearly all of the committee's workgroups.
Willa Fields, RN, has won the 2013 HIMSS Nursing Informatics Leadership Award, which honors an individual that has been a trailblazer in the field of nursing informatics.
Ms. Fields, a professor at the school of nursing at San Diego State University, has conducted significant research around using health IT to improve patient safety. She is also a former chair of the HIMSS Board of Directors and the former vice president of patient care systems at Sharp HealthCare in San Diego.
